3rd-5th GRADE WINTER OPTIONS DAY!

 

WHEN: Thursday, December 19 from 1pm-2pm

WHERE: 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Classrooms 

Winter Options classes are a great opportunity for families to teach a small group of students a fun craft, game or any special interest you may have.

Volunteers plan, gather the supplies needed and lead a small group of 8-10 students.

Activity leaders are needed the most, but you're welcome to sign up to help with any activity. There are also activities that do not require supplies; just leaders!

**The more leaders/activities we have, the SMALLER the groups will be!**

Get the kids' energy out over Christmas break and join your friends at Sky Zone Trampoline Park for a fundraiser for Kenny. Flyers were sent home this week!

WINTER RESOURCES

Minneapolis Public Schools will be on Winter Break from Monday, Dec. 23 – Friday, Jan. 3. Classes resume on Monday, Jan. 6.  Below are some resources for families during break

Programs and Activities

Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board 

Recreation Centers are open during Winter Break (all recreation centers closed on Dec. 25 and Jan.1) for free, supervised, drop-in activities. Find a full list of recreation center locations, visit www.minneapolisparks.org.

Hennepin County Library
Libraries in Minneapolis are open over Winter Break and have fun events and activities for youth and families. Find library locations and hours at www.hclib.org.

Boys and Girls Club – Jerry Gamble
Open December 26 and 27 and January 2 and 3 from 9 AM- 5 PM. Activities will be social recreation, physical education and possible field trips as well. $5 for for non-members.

YWCA Minneapolis Winter Break Fun
Arts and crafts, games and activities for students K-5th grade. Breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack provided. Scholarships available and Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) accepted.
Open December 23, 26, 27, 30 and 31 from 7:00 am – 6:00 pm

  • United Way 211 provides free and confidential health and human services information for people in Minnesota. Assistance is available in all languages. Phones are answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. United Way 211 can connect families with resources and information including food and clothes. Call 211 or 651.291.0211.
  • MPS Family Resource Center provides school-based resources and social services for families and students at Minneapolis Public Schools. The Family Resource Center is available by appointments and by walk-ins. For more information and office hours call 612.668.4281.

The school request window opens on FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 2019 and the deadline to request a school is FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2020.

You Should Request A School If...

  • Your propective High Five (PreK) student turns age 4 by September 1, 2020
  • Your prospective Kindergarten student turns age 5 by Septenber 1, 2020
  • Your child turns age 5 between September 2 and October 31, 2020 and may be eligible for early admission into Kindergarten
  • Your 5th grade student would like to attend a Middle School OTHER than their suggested pathway school
  • Your 8th grade student would llike to attend a High School OTHER than their automatically assigned Attendance Area community school
  • You want to enroll your child in an MPS school or change your child's current MPS school

Your request will receive the same level of consideration whether you submit it on November 15 or February 7, so we encourage you to take the time to visit the schools you are interested in and get a feel for the community! Nothing will tell you more about the school than a walk down the hallway, a visit with the Principal, or attending one of their school events.

Congratulations to Kenny School for being validated as a 2016-2017 SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE! 

This prestigious honor was awarded to Kenny School by the Minnesota Elementary School Principals' Association (MESPA). Thanks to the commitment and dedication to teaching and learning by Principal William Gibbs, former Principal Intern Jessica Peifer, teachers, staff, students and community, Kenny School is one of six Minnesota schools to earn this award!
