Mrs. McGovern grew up near the sand dunes of western Michigan. She graduated from a small country high school and attended Grand Valley State University, Grand Rapids, Michigan, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education K-12 and Theater/Speech. 

After receiving her Master of Arts in Education from St. Mary’s University in Minneapolis, she earned a K-12 Minnesota Reading license from Hamline University in St. Paul and an Orton-Gillingham Reading certificate, specializing in helping dyslexic readers. She has studied textile design at the University of Minnesota and has earned certificates of advanced graduate studies in essential aspects of human learning at Harvard’s Project Zero led by professor Howard Gardner.

Mrs. McGovern has taught visual arts at all grade levels. Presently, she splits her week teaching visual art at Kenny Elementary and Bryn Mawr SPEN. Mrs. McGovern is an adjunct graduate education professor at Hamline University, teaching one night a week.

Mrs. McGovern loves to paint, design textiles, read poems, sew, swing dance, and cook.  She loves sharing time with her husband, college daughter, and her cat Scoutie.
